Networking for anyone can be tough & I found from experience it just takes going to enough soirees to find the one with your groove that fit just right. I went to a Chicks Startup event in ATL and while it seemed great for the right women it didn't really suit my family friendly tech vibe. I think the older divorcees/singletons were keen on launching fresh grad chicks businesses and that's not me. I belong to another group in my neighborhood and while the women are fun, sweet and excellent friends their work sand box of candles, oils, therapy and reiki doesn't seem to offer killer potential for helping me launch the next consumer mobile tech super star but I love their products for my time off. At another event of IOS Developers I would love the intense exchange of ideas and watching the competition for Guiness Book of World Records for acronyms throw down but Apres drinking I felt super weird being the only women fortunately that has changed. People were crazy nice but I stood out like sore petite blond. I still go because I will suffer anything to grow my grey matter. I recently got invited to a Codess event for women coders and I found my people. Awkward, funny and not afraid of women in power. I also love Jason Brett's Atlanta based Product Camp lunches as this if full of people I can team with to get it done. Equally, I was jazzed when my friend Missy Barrett dragged me along to A Points Of Light event Innovate Atlanta at Google. It was so inspiring to meet the founders of amazing arts and technology stuff in Atlanta like STEAM bringing tech education to kids at school in their pumping STEAM TRUCK and DASH filling empty warehouse spaces with art. So, GoldieTech has not just found her Tech Home but her Tech beach home, and Tech mountain cabin as well.
