A huge part of running a consulting business is picking up the phone and being Jami on the spot for both existing and potential customers. As such I try to find at least a sliver of my crazy day to talk to anyone that may want to hire me. Friday left me giggling. I returned the call of an eager and articulate gentlemen and he explained his deep, hot, sport app idea. Out of respect I will not give it away to my millions of readers. Needless to say it was well thought out, if not a bit extensive for a mobile launch. He chatted with me about raising a venture round and some potentially interested VC's and a huge partnership with a large existing brand he turned down. I always like to believe what people tell me so I let him steam roll forward and he sent me his rough use flow diagram for the app. Finally, I asked him his budget, after all he was hoping to build The Taj Mahal and I wanted to make sure he knew what he was getting into. He's like, "hey, it's a pretty good idea for a 17 year old kid, right?" I responded, my eyes giant orbs popping from my head "indeed it is and then I asked... Korman, are you 17?" I mused to myself as he formulated a response...the great digital equalizer is connecting us across the years. What's a decade plus between folks when we drink from the same Google fountain of youth? "No, no", he stammered snapping me from my dreamy philsophizing, of course not ... "I am 18! " My prices were a bit out of range for Korman presently as he was a wiz in the making and not a made teen yet. I did tell him he could raise a friends and family round gathering all his friends allowance together. You know, shake their piggy banks extra hard or throw a community car wash to pay me to do a more pristine deck for him. Hopefully, his mom renews his phone contract and doesn't take his cell phone this month and he need not buy his girlfriend a drugstore box of chocolates for Valentines and I get the gig. In the meantime, I am focusing my marketing on individuals of legal drinking age.
